Gradation (Aggregate Gradation)

Gradation describes the distribution of particle sizes within an aggregate sample, determined by shaking it through a stack of standard sieves and recording the percentage retained on each. Well-graded aggregate — a good mix of particle sizes — packs efficiently and reduces the amount of cement paste needed to fill voids, improving both economy and workability.
