California Bearing Ratio (CBR)

The California Bearing Ratio (CBR) is a standardized penetration test that compares the strength of a subgrade or base material to a reference crushed-stone material, expressed as a percentage. Higher CBR values indicate stronger, better-draining material, and CBR is a common input into pavement thickness design.
