Capillary Break

A capillary break is a layer of coarse, clean material — typically washed gravel with few fines — placed beneath a slab or foundation to interrupt the capillary wicking of groundwater upward through smaller soil pores, complementing a vapor barrier in controlling moisture beneath a structure.
