Check Dam

A check dam is a small, temporary barrier — often rock, sandbags, or fiber logs — placed across a swale or drainage channel to slow the velocity of concentrated flow. Slower water carries less sediment and gives suspended particles more time to settle before reaching a storm drain or waterway.
