Construction Joint

A construction joint is a planned joint located where a concrete placement is intentionally interrupted and later resumed — at the end of a workday, a section limit, or a change in pour sequence — as opposed to a control or isolation joint, which manages shrinkage cracking or independent movement. Construction joints are typically detailed with reinforcing continuity (dowels or continuing rebar) across the joint and sometimes a keyway to help transfer shear.
