Design Storm

A design storm is a hypothetical rainfall event — defined by a specific intensity, duration, and statistical return period, such as a "100-year storm" — used as the standard basis for sizing culverts, detention basins, and other drainage infrastructure so they perform adequately during a storm of that severity.
