Pile (Foundation Pile)

A pile is a long, slender structural element — steel, concrete, or timber — driven or drilled deep into the ground to carry a structure's load down to a stronger soil or bedrock layer when shallow foundations aren't adequate. Piles can carry load through end bearing, side friction, or both.
