Impervious Surface

An impervious surface is any hard, non-porous surface — asphalt, conventional concrete, rooftops, heavily compacted soil — that prevents rainwater from infiltrating into the ground beneath it. Total impervious area on a site is a primary factor stormwater regulations use to determine detention and water-quality treatment requirements.
