Lap Splice

A lap splice connects two pieces of rebar by overlapping them a specified length — related to the bar's development length — so the tensile load in one bar transfers into the next through the surrounding concrete. Lap splice length and location (avoiding high-stress zones) are typically detailed on structural drawings.
