Concrete Glossary

Lift (Pour Lift)

A lift is a single layer, or stage, of concrete placed in one continuous operation — most relevant on tall walls, columns, or other elements too tall to pour in one shot. Retaining walls, for example, are often poured in multiple lifts as the formwork is raised.

Each lift generates its own washout event when chutes, pumps, and tools are rinsed between stages, which is why multi-lift wall jobs tend to need more frequent washout pan swaps than a single flatwork pour of similar volume.
