Low Impact Development (LID)

Low Impact Development (LID) is a stormwater management approach that tries to mimic a site's pre-development hydrology using distributed, small-scale controls — bioretention cells, permeable pavement, vegetated swales — instead of routing all runoff to one large detention pond. Many newer municipal stormwater codes require or incentivize LID practices.
