Mat Foundation

A mat (or raft) foundation is a single, thick reinforced concrete slab that supports an entire structure by spreading its load across the full building footprint, rather than through individual footings. Mat foundations are common where soil bearing capacity is low or where individual footings would be so large they'd nearly overlap anyway.
