Rebar (Reinforcing Steel)

Rebar (reinforcing steel bar) is embedded in concrete to provide tensile strength, since plain concrete is strong in compression but weak in tension and prone to cracking under bending or pulling loads. Bar size, spacing, and placement are specified on structural drawings.

Rebar is typically ordered, cut, and tied by a separate rebar or ironworker crew ahead of a pour, and doesn't generate washout waste itself — though it does need to stay clear of a jobsite's washout pan location during a pour.
