Shear Wall

A shear wall is a structural wall — commonly reinforced concrete or concrete masonry — designed specifically to resist lateral (side-to-side) forces from wind or seismic loading and transfer them safely down to the foundation. Shear walls are a primary lateral-force-resisting system in many mid- and high-rise buildings and parking structures.
