Shoring

Shoring is temporary structural support — bracing, posts, or engineered systems — used to hold up an excavation wall, an existing structure, or formwork until the permanent structure (or the surrounding soil) can support itself. OSHA has specific shoring and protective-system requirements for excavations over five feet deep.
