SWPPP Heat Map for Colorado

🗺️ SWPPP Heat Map – Colorado groundwater & washout requirements

Identify areas with designated groundwater basins, alluvial aquifers, and source water protection zones — where washout pans are critical.

🪣 HEAT ZONES — WASHOUT RISK
Designated Groundwater Basins (high priority)
Alluvial Aquifer zones (sensitive recharge)
Denver Basin bedrock aquifer area
Source water / well protection areas
General advisory (low-to-moderate risk)
⚖️ CO SWPPP mandate
Under CDPS Construction Stormwater Permit (COR400000) & Clean Water Act, sites disturbing ≥1 acre must implement BMPs for concrete washout [reference:0][reference:1]. Colorado CDPHE enforces these rules with short-notice inspections [reference:2]. Washout pans are essential in high-risk areas to prevent toxic slurry from reaching groundwater.
🌊 Why washout pans are needed near underground sources — Concrete washwater has pH >12 and contains metals / solids. In designated groundwater basins and alluvial aquifers, a spill can directly contaminate drinking water resources. Colorado's Ground Water Commission identifies 8 designated basins where groundwater is the primary supply [reference:3]. These "heat zones" on the map reflect real GIS data from the Colorado Geological Survey and Division of Water Resources.
